| As a part of a methodical search, rescue teams use spray paint to identify areas they search. The X's they leave have significant information for trained professionals. Other spray paint is used by insurance companies (as in this photo) and by individual property owners, who often paint important information on their houses. Others paint provocative messages or other phrases which may or may not be humorous in a distinctively non-humorous setting. When Carly and Maddie find Carly's car in a pile, following the 2011 Joplin tornado, one of the things they note is the painted X on it. Read more in Out of the Wind. |
