With the Home Depot building destroyed in the 2011 Joplin tornado, a temporary structure was quickly erected and stocked to help Joplin residents and businesses cope with the demand for tools and materials. When some volunteers from the church went to nearby home improvement rival, Lowe's, they were met at the door with an employee who asked what they needed and sent them directly to the appropriate location in the store. Some materials were even donated at no charge from Lowe's. |
That must have been what it felt like to work in the temporary facilities of St. John's Hospital in the weeks following the 2011 Joplin tornado that made the hospital's regular building unsafe. Pictured here, the hospital wards were transferred to tent-like facilities, with refrigerated, sterile trailers that served as surgery rooms.
