Is God in a tornado? As I wrote, I soon realized that two of my characters would meet in the middle. While one finds hope, another finds a challenge to her faith.
Mark White is a young paramedic who takes interest in two boys who have suddenly been thrust into a very imperfect world. He knows long shots when he sees one, but will not give up on a worthwhile one when it crosses his path.
A boy from Carl Junction, William Foster, rides in a pickup truck with his grandfather behind the wheel, when he spots a lump lying in a nearby ditch. Considering the tornado that just passed - is still passing - through Joplin, he wonders if the lump might be a living person.
Ten-year-old Hailey Kelly is determined to become a meteorologist. She is home when the power suddenly goes out. Her family hunkers down in the hallway of their house as she worries about her dad getting home safely from Wal-Mart.
