A hard hat symbolizes the danger, the heroism, and the volunteerism that followed in the wake of the 2011 tornado that took the lives of more than 160 of our neighbors in Joplin, Missouri. This hard hat is a part of the small memorial that exists within Cunningham Park, on Maiden Lane. If one is not careful, the small parts of a memorial can be missed, but if one thinks deeply about these things, even the little parts takes on a voice. What does this hard hat say to you? |
If you're in the vicinity of Joplin's airwaves, next week, point your rabbit ears toward KSN, the local NBC affiliate on channel 16. I will make two appearances on KSN:
The following day (May 22) will the third anniversary of the EF5 tornado that devastated Joplin in 2011. I am honored to have been offered such a timely and prime interview slot on the local news. My book, Out of the Wind, continues to rise in sales as folks discover it. If you see it in a local bookstore, please pick it up and show it to someone nearby. Send your friends to Northpark Mall in Joplin, Missouri, for their own personal copies of Out of the Wind. The book is now available at two stores: For All Bible and Vintage Stock. Those are D. Ed. Hoggatt books on the shelf behind Bob's right shoulder. You can find Crumbling Spirit and Out of the Wind at Always Buying Books, north of Jake's Fireworks on North Main (Joplin).
