Street signs blew away in the 2011 Joplin tornado, and with complete destruction in many areas, navigation was virtually impossible. Spray paint became survivors' and volunteers' best friend, as it was used to mark search areas and intersections. This photo shows the paint at Indiana Avenue. With the ruins of Joplin High School in the background, this street was more identifiable than others. Read more in Out of the Wind. |
