But when the tornado crosses directly over her head and into her life, Carly starts by questioning God. All she knows is that her beloved boyfriend, Boyd, is missing, and she desperately wants to find him. On top of that, her best friend, Madison, has lost both of her parents.
Why is it, then, that Maddie (not a church goer) is handling the situation better, and with a more positive spirit, than Carly? How is it that Maddie finds faith when Carly loses hers? And what part does an 11-year-old girl have to play in tying things together for both of them?
This story unravels in Out of the Wind, a story about the 2011 Joplin tornado, told from five points of view.
