The time came for the church pews to be refinished and reupholstered. After the roof was damaged in the 2011 Joplin tornado, the auditorium suffered from water damage, and daylight could be seen through the cracks in the roof. The pews were trucked to a local shop for refurbishing. Folks could not wait for the return of the carpet and the pews. In the meantime, Sunday worship was held weekly at the La Quinta, a few blocks away. The church building is a central location in Out of the Wind, a place where characters meet and disperse. |
