Gone with the Wind is not about the Civil War, the war does provide the backdrop for the storyline. The similarly-titled Out of the Wind is not about the church, but the building is a central location in the story, and many of the characters are members or volunteers, from congregations of churches of Christ around the world. Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, for example, is an organization headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. I have been told that this group is third in line behind the Red Cross and the Salvation Army with the amount of benevolence provided. Plus, very, very little of donated monies is used for administrative costs. Millions of dollars worth of new materials (furniture, appliances, cleaning supplies, food, water, and other supplies are distributed as needed across the continental United States to victims of earthquake, flood, fire, chemical spill, explosion, and of course, tornado. This group provided a majority of the supplies distributed at the church building in its newly-gutted auditorium/warehouse. | |
