People were excited to see the first concrete corners being craned into place at Cecil Floyd Elementary School in Joplin, Missouri. The steel reinforced pieces were welded to each other and are said to be strong enough to withstand an EF5 tornado - much to the comfort of many families in the neighborhood who may now shelter inside the nearly-completed structure in the event of a severe storm. Ribbon cutting festivities have been scheduled for the end of April. The safe room and gym is in response to the EF5 tornado that shattered our community in 2011, "significantly damaged" our school, and destroyed others. |
