The "Survivor Tree" has grown substantially since it was deprived of its leaves in the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. In the days and months to come, people not only left mementos on the fence to show respect and remembrance; they also left things at the foot of this little elm. At one point, authorities even had to tell people to stop touching the tree, because it was causing it to stress even more. Thankfully, today, this tree is a large, thriving, offering thousands the cool comfort that comes from its shade. |
